Scott Insurance Welcomes a New Chapter of Leadership

At Scott Insurance, we’ve always believed that strong leadership is the foundation for serving our clients, partners, and employee owners with excellence. As we begin 2026, we’re excited to share an important update that reflects that commitment: Nathan Kerr has been named President of Scott Insurance, and Hutch Mauck will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
This evolution isn’t just a title change; it’s a strategic step forward. For many years, Hutch has carried the combined responsibilities of President and CEO. As Scott has grown and expanded its services, its leadership structure has evolved to support continued growth. By splitting these roles, Hutch will focus on long-term strategy and vision, while Nathan leads day-to-day performance, sales, and growth initiatives. Together, they’ll guide Scott into its next chapter with the same values that have defined us for more than 160 years.
Hutch Mauck: A Legacy of Leadership
Hutch joined Scott in 1991 and spent over two decades building our Richmond office into a powerhouse of performance and culture. When he became President in 2014, Hutch brought a clear vision for Scott’s future and a deep understanding of our values. His tenure has been marked by steady, values-driven growth and initiatives that strengthened our culture of ownership. From creating the Scott Cares Foundation to mentoring the next generation of leaders, Hutch has ensured Scott remains a company rooted in purpose and people. Under his leadership, we’ve achieved historic sales growth and expanded into new markets, including opening our tenth branch in Virginia’s Tidewater region.
“This evolution strengthens our leadership team and ensures Scott remains positioned for continued success,” Hutch shares. “Nathan’s experience and dedication to our mission make him uniquely qualified to serve as President. Together, we will continue building on Scott’s legacy of service and innovation.”
Nathan Kerr: Leading with Care and Ownership
Nathan’s story with Scott began in 2000 when, at just 22 years old, he helped launch our Knoxville, Tennessee office. A bold move that reflected Scott’s entrepreneurial spirit. In 2011, he became Branch Leader of our Roanoke office and more recently spearheaded the Affordable Housing Practice Group, a niche that has become a model for specialized expertise. Nathan describes his leadership philosophy in two words: care and ownership. Caring for colleagues and clients while taking ownership of outcomes. As Nathan steps into the role of President, he brings a unique perspective shaped by years of innovation and stewardship.
“Scott’s mission to serve, protect, and improve lives has guided us for more than 160 years,” Nathan says. “I look forward to building on that foundation as we grow and innovate for the future.”
